North Midlands Breast Screening Service is part of the National Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) and invites over 34,000 local women for screening each year. We provide a free breast screening service for well women aged between 50 and 70, resident in North Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent, Stafford and surrounding areas.
When you are due to be screened, you will receive an open invite letter asking you to call the breast screening office to book your appointment. If you are aged 71 or over you can now self refer for your breast screening. Please note, due to the current times, capacity is greatly reduced in order to allow cleaning of the machines and rooms in between appointments and to accommodate social distancing in the unit.
We aim to provide and promote an efficient and effective, high quality breast screening service, to all eligible women within a caring environment.
Breast screening aims to find breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any symptoms. To do this, an x-ray is taken of each breast (mammogram). Early detection may often mean simpler and more successful treatment.
