Dudley, Wolverhampton and South West Staffordshire Breast Screening Service
The Dudley, Wolverhampton and South-West Staffordshire Breast Screening Service is part of the NHS National Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) in England and invites approx. 34,000 women for screening each year within the West Midlands region.
We provide a free breast screening service for women aged 50 to 70 (up to 71st birthday). If you are an eligible individual registered with a GP, you will be automatically invited for a mammogram every three years, with your first appointment arriving between the ages 50 and 53. If you have not received an invitation by age 53, please contact us on 01384 244177.
Breast screening uses mammography radiography to detect small changes in the breast before other symptoms or signs of breast cancer develop. Mammograms are conducted at our specialised breast screening units/mobile units by our female practitioners. We have three mobile units currently in operation to increase accessibility.
Women aged 71 can continue to have a screening appointment every 3 years. However, you will not be automatically invited for an appointment. If you are aged 71 or over and would like a screening appointment, please contact us on 01384 244177.
If you are a trans man, trans woman, or non-binary, you may be invited based on the sex you are registered with at your GP surgery; you should contact your GP for advice.
Our service also manages women with a very high risk of developing breast cancer where earlier and more frequent surveillance screening is undertaken, typically including an annual mammogram and/or MRI scans. To access very high risk screening, the service is required to receive a referral and required evidence from an appropriate referrer.
