When we screen

Once every three years your GP practice will be contacted and all women eligible for screening will be invited. You do not have to contact us to make an appointment, we will ensure that you receive your invitation at the appropriate time. On some occasions you may be asked to call the screening office if it is your first screening invitation.

The screening programme also offers women aged 71 or over a free breast screen every three years. Women aged 71 or over will not automatically be sent an invitation but are encouraged to call the unit to make an appointment that suits them.

When you receive your invitation letter you will see that we have already allocated you a specific screening location, appointment date and time. If you find this appointment inconvenient then please complete
the appointment request form so we can arrange an alternative location, date or time.

Not every woman will receive an appointment as soon as she is 50. You will receive your first appointment before your 53rd birthday and therefore there is no need to contact us for an appointment.

My GP practice is not listed what shall I do?

If it has been more than three years since your last screening appointment and your practice is not listed below then please contact us as soon as possible.

If it has been less than three years since your last appointment and your practice is not listed below there is no need to contact us at this time and we encourage you to keep checking the table below as the information provided is regularly updated.

My GP practice is listed what shall I do?

The GP Practice will be sent an Information Pack about breast screening about 2 months before the practice is due. We will then send an appointment to each eligible woman in the practice about 3 weeks before the practice is due with details of your appointment time and location. There is therefore no need to contact us at this time.

Please note that if at any time you notice any changes in your breast/s or have any breast symptoms of any kind then please contact your GP practice immediately.
